"Ein Mann geht durch die Wand" or "The Man Who Walked Through the Wall" is a West German German-language movie from 1959, so this one already had its 55th anniversary recently and like most other Heinz Rühmann films, it is still in black-and-white, even if by that time, color films were somewhat common already (Sissi for example). There is a bit of drama in here, but it is mostly about the romantic comedy really and a very bizarre physical phenomenon that is also described in the film's title. Hubert von Meyerinck and Hans Leibelt may also be known to German film buffs, maybe some others too. And the director and the two writers are also far from unknown and were all three somewhat successful in filmmaking over half a century ago. But this 100-minute film here cannot convince me to check out other works from them right away. There were good moments and Rühmann elevates the material as usual (though he has greater performances too), but as a whole I must say that I was not really a whole lot entertained by this one here and I believe the awards recognition it received on many occasions may have been exaggerated. That's why I give it a thumbs-down and only recommend it to the most die-hard Rühmann film fans.
