Unsuccessful tribute
29 July 2016
Warning: Spoilers
"Je t'aime John Wayne" is a 10-minute short film from 2001, so this one has its 15th anniversary this year. it was directed by Toby MacDonald and written by Luke Ponte. This duo scored a BAFTA nomination for their work here. The film is in black-and-white to remind of the days of John Wayne and Belmondo,w ho also plays a big role in this one. I personally did not enjoy the watch. One reason may be that I don#t have much of a connection with Wayne, another may be that the film seemed clumsy and try-hard occasionally in trying to re-enact a time long gone. I certainly do not agree with the BAFTA that this was among the best short films of 2001. It is a decent tribute by the filmmakers dedicated to their heroes, but it's not worth watching for general audiences I think. I give it a thumbs-down.
