Oppam (2016)
10/10
Best Malayalam Crime Thriller of Recent Time
20 September 2016
As the tag-line says, "Someone's after me" and I guess, the audiences are the one who's running after this well crafted, edge of the seat thriller. The malayali audience are celebrating the return of Lal- Priyan combo, the duo which created some of the most memorable movies in Malayalam like Chithram, Kilukkam, Chandralekha, Thalavattom, Vellanakalude Naadu, Thenmavin Kombath etc. The recent flicks of this duo was not so impressive and audience was eagerly waiting for a good film from them and I think that's what inspired Priyadarshan to write screenplay for this movie by himself. His recent films were somewhat like the amateur siblings of his own previous films. But this movie is a fresh piece of work, with some new experiments by the director who was always praised for awesome visuals in his movies. This movie has all the elements to impress the family audience and the fans alike.

Oppam is the cat and mouse chase between Jayaraman, a blind lift operator and a serial killer. This movie is a one man show of 'The Complete Actor' who just elevated the quality of the movie with his unparallel acting skills. He once again proved that he is the king of the Kerala Box Office.

The technical side of the movie was also impressive. The cinematography by Ekambharam and BGM by Ron Yohaan was stunning. The cuts were perfect. Overall, the film is the perfect visual treat for this festive season.
