A bank is robbed by a masked man, whose face is also hidden by a scarf. On the way out of the bank the robber sees an attractive woman and kisses her before making his escape. While he was robbing the vault of the bank, one of the customers runs to the Police Station and raises they alarm. The robber flees just before the Police arrive, and though they see him, they cannot apprehend him. This is the latest in a series of such daring raids. The proceeds are left at an orphanage, whose director seems reluctant to forego the windfall, Later, it is discovered that the sum returned by the director is short of the total reported stolen from the banks.

Murdoch, frustrated by the lack of clues, invents a device that will explode and cover the robber in hard to remove red dye. A reporter, overhearing Murdoch describing the device to Inspector Brackenreid, quips that the police will catch the robber red-handed.

In due time, the robber targets the same bank where the attractive woman works, and makes off with a smaller sum of money in the booby-trapped money bag, kissing the woman once more. The woman's fiancé, who works at the same branch, is far from amused.

Next morning, the bank manager goes to the Police Station with a box that he tells Murdoch was left outside the bank, complete with Murdoch's dye device, which exploded and covered his hands in dye, plus a note from the robber. Murdoch says that the robber is mocking the bank and the Police.

When the robber leaves a note asking the attractive woman to meet him in a hotel, Inspector Brackenreid organises a trap at the hotel...

From then on, the action moves swiftly on, with the attractive woman being killed, the main suspect having the perfect alibi, and one or two twist, but as always Murdoch finds the villain.

The question of Murdoch's feelings for Dr Ogden, whose wedding is imminent, is explored in some depth in a sub plot involving several other folk. The episode ends with a man-to- man conversation between Murdoch and Dr Ogden's fiancé.

Once more, there are some delightful features in this episode, given all that we know about the recurring characters. It' less mysterious than some stories in the series, but it does set up an interesting season finale. What will happen at Julia's nuptials?
