Yes, this sequel is not quite as deep as the original. There is a bit more drama. Maybe that's what producers need in order to fund a project. I don't know.
I really enjoyed the beginning and the near end the best. There was mostly drama in the middle that left me a little dry but I got over it and still managed 8 stars.
I want to see more. What does Holocene man become? Is the Holocene over? If God exists, he wouldn't care that it took 14,000 years to get the word out, right?
