Aligarh - A slow and cold punch in the gut
29 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
In today's world where we talk about equality for a all kinds of people, this film comes as a wake up call. The film is quite a realistic portrayal of the 2010 Ramchandra Siras Case. It catches the tumult surrounding Siras while portraying him as a grounded human being like we all are. Whatever happened to Mr. Siras was was not justifiable but we must stride forward and change it for the better. Coming to the film, it heavily depends upon its slow pace and subtle score to create the mood and boy doesn't it a sad one! The performances are amazing with Manoj Bajpayee as the highlight of the film. He has, hands down delivered the best performance of his career surpassing Bhikhu (Satya) and Sardar Khan (Gangs of Wasseypur). Rajkumar gives a solid performance but he could've done better. The direction comes from Hansal Mehta on of the finest of our country. His vision although, simple, but is very engaging and sometimes it tests your patience. Though not a technical masterpiece, Aligarh is an incredible story which told everything as it was not as it should be (like most of the bollywood "inspired from real events" are) and should get it's due praise. I'd definitely recommend this film.
