Laurel and Hardy tangle with clones of themselves
23 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
See the colorized version (or B&W) at YouTube. The boys play themselves as well as small fry clones of themselves. The focus is mainly on the clones, which I will designate as L-Ollie and L-Stan., which have bodies and personalities just like their child-like fathers. In no case do we see the fathers and clones in the same frame. Notice that L-Ollie lacks the moustache of his father: one of the few times Ollie agreed to shave his moustache. Also, the sets for the clones are appropriately oversized........The fathers spend their evening playing checkers and billiards, or admonishing the clones when they get too rambunctious. Finally, the fathers have had enough and order them to bed........ Although they go upstairs, it takes quite a while for them to get in bed. L-Stan gets to the bedroom first, and shuts the door on L-Ollie. L-Stan then pulls the loose doorknob on L-Ollie's side off the shank, the knob falling on L-Ollie's foot. L-Ollie peeks through the hole for the shank. When L-Stan pushes the shank back in, it pokes L-Ollie in the eye. L-Stan climbs onto the bureau from the open bottom drawer. L-Ollie does the same, but he is heavier, and the drawer bottom gives way, causing L-Ollie to knock various things off. Then, L-Ollie spies a poorly-animated mouse on the floor. It goes under the bed and L-Ollie looks under the bed. The mouse hops on Ollie's rump. L-Stan mans the air rifle aiming for the mouse, which hops away, and hits L-Ollie in the rump, causing him to howl. When some liniment L-Stan knocks over pours down L-Ollie's pajamas, he howls even louder. So, L-Stan fills the bathtub and has L-Ollie sit on the edge. Soon, he stops crying, but L-Stan accidentally knocks him in the full tub. L-Ollie is mad as a wet hen........When he leaves the bathroom, L-Ollie accidentally turns on the shower and somehow doesn't notice it. He closes the door behind him. This will haunt them and their fathers at film's end , when Ollie opens the door to get the boys a drink of water. He's greeted with a flood that sweeps him and others away........I consider this to be an average L&H short in terms of interest.
