Excellent quality French farce made by an American
18 December 2018
For one thing if there's one bad side to this movie is that in my opinion it didn't age very well, today in 2018 it's kind of humor is probably not for everybody but I'm certain that in 1961 a film like this would have been practically considered a masterpiece and one of genius Billy Wilder's best movie... For example when James Cagney's character enter the room full of German workers each one of them get up and salutes him because they were working for The Fuhrer in the past during the war... Getting everybody to salute exactly at the same time as they do must have required a lot of preparation and know-how... In any case it's 1000 time better than Wilder's poorly made and unwatchable "Some Like It Hot" with Marilyn Monroe, her only bad movie in my opinion... The whole movie is a parody of typical American businessmans; the story is about a stereotypical businessman who is Coca-Cola's Chief of operations for the city of West Berlin in Germany played by the genius actor James Cagney, his boss the chairman of Coca-Cola ask him to watch his seventeen-year old spoiled daughter for a few weeks... Everything work fine for some times but then the rich daughter secretly fall in love and marry a Communist factory worker from East Berlin.... A huge part of the humor reside in the fact that all characters in the movie speak very fast, it's one sentence after another for two hours, I don't think everybody has the brain required to follow all what is said through the movie and especially by James Cagney, who must have a phenomenal concentration ability to play such a role... All this give the impression that Cagney's character solve all the issues quickly as "one, two, three", hence the title... Technically the directing is nothing but flawless, it's Alfred Hitchcock quality, the movie is in blakc-and-white but they really took the time to always place the cameras exactly at the right place to get the best angles and things like that... The writing is also excellent for a movie made in 1961... Overall I give this movie a 9 out of ten because the jokes are sometimes easy...
