True Detective: The Big Never (2019)

Can't beleive I'm saying this, but this is getting even slower. Each episode has less and less actual stuff happening. It's ep. 3 already and the story didn't move at all. I like the idea of exploring the characters, yet Wayne Hays is getting almost 90% of creen time in 3 separate time lines, while Roland West kind of loses the importance he didn't even have in the first place. Also, while the make up is amazing, Stephen Dorff's looks are kind of weird (he looks younger in his older scenes and vice versa).

I'm already starting to lose interest, mostly because it's hard for me to identify with Ali's character and due to crawling pacing. The detectives have less chemistry than Marty and Rust, and they are less grounded and beleiveable overall. Their interactions are ok, but they just never seem to care about each other at all. They are always distant from each other.

The fact that a big chunk of each episode is close ups of Ali's face trying to deal with the horrors of his past kind of becomes annoying. This is a very cheap strategy of building up to nothing. Like "wait till you find out, oh that was so bad his whole life was shattered because of this one particular case, it will be so intense, just wait till you see". And then nothing happens, nothing at all.

It really held my attention up until now. And while I love getting back to S1 and enjoying every shot and every dialogue of it, I'm not even sure I will be around to witness S3 finale.
