NOT A HOME RUN BUT A SOLID DOUBLE...!
13 March 2019
Based on Monty Stratton, a ballplayer who became an inspiration to his family & teammates starring James Stewart, June Allyson & Frank Morgan. Stratton was an up & coming pitcher working his way in the minor leagues when he was discovered by a down on his luck scout who encourages & nourishes his talent enough for him to make a try for the majors. Being irresolutely decent & a family man, Stratton succeeds admirably but never forgets his roots as he continues to support his mother & cousin (who has taken up duties on his farm as a helper) but when a hunting accident (he trips & fires his rifle into his leg) turns life threatening, his leg has to be amputated causing a crossroads to be reached as his doting & understanding wife & his newborn son stand by his side as he makes a return to the baseball diamond. A feel good story to be sure but not as mythical as say The Natural or emotional as the Pride of the Yankees but like any capable baseball unit, it gets the job done.
