Never heard of a coroner in the UK doing fieldwork- anything necessary is usually done by the Coroner's officer. His/ her role is to review reports and examine witnesses, certainly not personally detecting crimes. Most UK coroners are to busy handling mountains of paperwork maybe it's made for the Australian or American markets. The law relating to coroners seems not to have appeared in the writers' bookshelves.
