This movie is one fun & silly spoof of the buddy Cop genre & it really takes the mick out of the "Lethal Weapon" films but all in a silly goofy fun way.
Estevez is perfect here as the rugged & loose cannon type of Cop, mimicking Mel Gibson's "Riggs" from the Lethal weapon movies, & he brings his usual witty charm as Jack Colt (What a Cop name lol) who is partnered up with his slightly older & more grounded partner Wes Luger (Another fun Cop name lol) played by the hilarious & legendary Samuel L Jackson & it's such a great part for Jackson as he's allowed to be silly & play it all straight whilst taking the mick out of Danny Glover's "Murtargh" from the Lethal weapon movies.
Estevez & Jackson really do make a fantasticly funny team, the gags are ridiculous & really silly but it's all supposed to be that way just like the hilarious "Naked Gun" films!!! I've been a huge Estevez fan since i was young & love most of his films especially his 90's output like the absolute Cult Classic urban survival Thriller "Judgment Night" & his dark sci-fi action Thriller "FreeJack" & his hilarious Cop Comedy sequel "Another Stakeout" among others, i consider Estevez as one of my favourite actors of all time & really enjoy watching his films, he doesn't seem to get the recognition he deserves & is only ever mention around the "Brat Pack films" but he's done way better than those early 80's flicks!!! His 1987 Cop Thriller "Stakeout" with Richard Dreyfuss is an excellent 80's film that just never gets mentioned? Also his 1986 stephen king directed sci-fi Horror Thriller "Maximum Overdrive" should be a Cult Classic but never gets mentioned along with "The Breakfast Club" or his Action Western "Young Guns" is pretty much forgotten too!!! Well Estevez is a movie hero to me & his films have had a huge impact on me growing so i feel strongly for liking Estevez & i defend alot of his forgotten gems. Estevez done alot for movies & Cinema back in the 80's & 90's but he never gets mentioned along with all the others stars of his era, but hey Estevez is a proper Movie star from the glory days of both those fantastic iconic era's of the 80's & 90's!!!
Anyway "Loaded Weapon 1" is a funny & feelgood comedy spoof of 80's Cop films & that's all you need to know & it's got lots of hilarious cameos from alot of stars from that era!!! The music is great too & the Action is fun & the comedy ridiculously silly & fun.
