'Snots Landing' more like!

Warning: Spoilers
Along with 'Dallas' and 'Dynasty', 'Knots Landing' is a spectacularly bad American soap opera which has all the entertainment value of being trapped in a lift. It was a spin-off from 'Dallas' which chartered the exploits of Gary Ewing ( Ted Shackleford ) and his wife Val ( Joan Van Ark, a woman whose plastic surgeon looked like the same one who serviced the late Michael Jackson ) who move from Dallas to the fictional California district known as Knots Landing. It trod the same banal line as the earlier shows - alcholism, extra marital affairs, murder, rape and about every other soap cliche going.

Throughout the '90's, repeats of 'Knots Landing' stunk up UK Gold like a heap of mildewing nappies in a rubbish tip. I am deeply ashamed to admit that I was subjected to this torture as my mother was a huge fan of the show and would watch it relentlessly.

About the only positive thing that can be said about the show is the catchy saxaphone theme ( provided by Jerrold Immel ) which was later used for the long running ITV sitcom 'The Upper Hand'.

It all thankfully came to an end in 1993 though it was a mystery that it ran as long as it did. Should it be remade, it will be as welcome an event as Jeremy Corbyn becoming Prime Minister Of Great Britain.
