A rare and unforgettable puzzle game that makes you feel as much as it makes you think

Portal 1 is a sci-fi masterpice, through and through. Over a decade after it's origional release on The Orange Box, it has aged almost flawlessly. Some players may complain about it's bare bones minimalistic art style and design, but the minimalist architecture is what makes the game shine, it's emotinal atmosphere.

You are dropped in a dead empty and soul sucking seiries of constructed chambers only known as the Aperture Science Enrichment center at the mercy of a tragic yet compelling and hilarious sadomasochistic AI character. GLaDOS.

For such a visually mindnumbingly lacking game, Valve's Source engine origionally created for Half-Life 2 and it's following episodes shines best in Portal which was origionally an afterthought. Well, the Source engine does what it does best in this game, physic based environmental puzzles. The idea of two interlinked spacial Portals back in 2007 was a mindblowing;y origional concept and it was no wonder that the project known as Narbacular Drop spiked Valve's interest in adapting (not stealing) the concept into a game of their own.

The inventive yet cumbersome origional mechanics of Narbacular Drop were simplified from two moveable mirrors to a gun that could shoot two interlinked Portals, with the concept expanded upon.

Humanity is at the core of this game and the human touch of adding fun and humor in an atmosphere where there shouldn't be any, and as GLaDOS's villainous and sociopathic tendencies become more apparent as the game goes on, so does the game's design understand the player's drive to not just defeat her, but maybe even free her and give her a touch of her a touch of your own humanity on her. This is where Portal really shines, the emotional Sci-Fi story. You feel trapped, confused, manipulated and lied to, only to not to free yourself from such a horrible place, but also free your own manipulator, who in some way or another, may be trapped in ways that the player can not even imagine.

Anyway, just play this brilliant game already if you haven't done so. I wont dare spoil anymore of this franchise. All is revealed about GLaDOS is revealed in the sequel, which in a lot of ways is better than this one.
