Why French cinema is the best
13 October 2020
A prosaic story of the cost of war. Sparse dialogue. And yet it is the unspoken and inarticulate manner that gives it its intensity. We feel the shifting emotions as events proceed. Just as we settle to what we feel is predictable feel good, another grenade is lobbed into the room. Our feelings for the characters shift as their decisions reverberate. The only fly in the ointment for me was the continuity errors that saw contradictions in the timing of the farming season. Pretty sure you don't sow cereal crops at the same time as harvest!
