Why is this actually kinda decent?
23 December 2020
I remember when this show was greenlit in 2019, and I was extremely angry because Nick Jr was essentially selling out, plus I personally find the Baby Shark song to be incredibly annoying.

The fact that the Breadwinners creators are working on the show (Breadwinners is one of the most hated Nickelodeon shows ever) lowered my expectations, and I'll be honest, I went into this show expecting to hate it and I was already prepared to dub it the worst kids cartoon of 2020 (however, Mighty Express took that spot). However, it was actually....kinda entertaining?

The theme tune uses the classic Baby Shark song and revamps it a little bit, so it's kinda better than the original show. The animation is colorful, bouncy, and expressive. Some of the writing and jokes were clever, and for a second, I forgot I was watching a preschool show.

As another bonus, the show doesn't have any of the fart or butt jokes that made Breadwinners so hated. One thing I appreciate is that Brooklyn (Baby Shark) is a flawed protagonist. She isn't perfect, but she's not a brat or bully like a certain bald child, and she overcomes her challenges and obstacles in a relatable way for kids.

I really do think that society was evolved past the need for perfect protagonists who can do no wrong, and Brooklyn proves that it is possible to create a flawed protagonist without alienating your target audience.

I am sure young kids will like it, but if parents are sick of the Baby Shark song, they probably won't. Also, the show isn't all that educational either, but I have lived through the Paw Patrol era of Nick Jr, so it's kinda foolish to go in and expect something that will enrich your kid's mind at this point (shows like Blue's Clues and Santiago are exceptions)
