Black Clover (2017–2021)

Highly Addictive, True Masterpiece

65 episodes in and truly impressed by the layers of development, despite minor artistic critiques. Seemingly "side characters" keep gaining complex and relatable backstory. Additionally, there's some hierarchy for each character, concerning loyalty to family, country, friends, ideals, etc. The loyalty calculus for each character is measured appropriately for each scene.

I'm continually impressed by how each character continues to develop on an ethically relatable line. Many characters start from their perspective of "nothing", despite the relative differences. Caste social dynamics are explored appropriately.

Perhaps the most impressive dynamic is the ethical spectrum we explore. What is good? Which ethical paradigm is most charismatic? When you factor in families, friends, institutional ties, and varying ethical paradigms, the complexity of character development is truly impressive. Where can this character grow? Do they care to grow in this direction?

I look forward to rewatching this series with my children when they are of age. So many good lessons to share. The world is not perfect, but there are ideals we can follow to make it better.
