This colorful farce has to be seen several times to really pick up everything simply because there is so much going on. There's a lot of door slamming, a lot of girls screaming in various predicaments in their dorms and lots of pranks being played on the various students on the different campuses separating the men and women. Hardy Kruger is a German student attending Cambridge on a mass scholarship and to learn better english, and he befriends the pretty Sylvia Syms who is ironically a student of German.
The light-hearted performance by Kruger really shows a different side to German youth as he is fun-loving, handsome, romantic and often silly. Syms is obviously entranced by him from the start but there's no way that she's going to be an easy mark for him. it's fun to watch him get to learn the various English customs as he gets around Cambridge, making various friendships, creating rivalries and ultimately getting the girl.
Syms is more of a reactor to what Krueger and the various other students do, often looking bemused as the young men do their best to make conquests. there's so much more to this though than the first, which is one of the reasons why at some point I know I will explore this yet again. The sporting events, fantastic location footage and even a male student sneaking into the female showers are among the highlights. The first time for me was mainly a visual tree, so next time I can easily focus on the plot. But I had a good time and can say that this gets a master's degree in silliness and makes the dean's list for its outrageousness.
