The Dean Martin Show (1965–1974)
2/10
For Martin Fans Only, Obviously

Warning: Spoilers
Legendary for performing so laid back he was almost vertical. And he joked about that himself. If you like any music of the past 40 years, or even Cab Calloway and Louis Prima, Martin is slow and corny.

He's also the original lounge lizard, like watching Christopher Walken's Saturday Night Live parody of a lady's man, except he sings.

There is some stuff that doesn't age well at all. Calling your backup singers Gold Diggers. And worse yet, spinning off some of them as the Ding A Ling Sisters. Worse than the name is making them anonymous pieces of meat and harassing them constantly. Constantly.

Some of the comedy is funny some of the time. Some is smarmy, empty, even depressing to see drunken numbness made light of. It's like letting your drunken newly divorced uncle hit on your female friends half his age, a mix of embarrassing and angering.

Only for his deepest fans. And for his fans defending him, go see the parody of his show on the live episode of 30 Rock. That's how this show looks to the rest of the world.
