Dumb and Dumber (1995–1996)

A shame, but unfortunately a 90s cartoon adaptation of a big movie that doesn't work
4 August 2021
Cartoon series as adaptations of great movie hits had reached their peak in the 90s. Jim Carrey adaptations were very popular, such as the cartoons for The Mask or the Ace Ventura film series. Both cartoons managed to introduce the theme of the original to a reinterpretation tailored to children and, if they did so at all, understood themselves only as a very loose continuation of the "main franchise". The latter also applies to the cartoon for Dumb and Dumber, but without the independently developed quality. More like the style of Ace Ventura, or the other way around, because the Ventura cartoon came later, but much weaker in execution. The drawings are very wacky, but the color scheme is too pale, the jokes don't come across well and the madness of the original seemed too difficult to wrap up. All in all, the series would be a little treasure to watch in today's times, just because the most new stuff is trash, but compared to other 90s series it is significantly weaker. You can take a look when you have time or just want to see more of the (poorly synchronized) characters, but nothing more.
