Sylvie's Love (2020)
7/10
Good Acting, Directing, and Plot - Poor Execution

Warning: Spoilers
Beginning with vintage scenes, likable characters, and a phenomenal soundtrack, this movie had me hooked from the beginning. The storyline was good and easy to follow. However, things got complicated. Sylvie and Robert are caught up in a cheating affair together, all the while with Sylvie's husband back home, providing for their family. When Sylvie and her husband split, it it for greener pastures with Robert, but there are no greener pastures. She finds out that cheating got her into another imperfect relationship. Why would the directors do this? Seemed silly. In my opinion, they should have avoided the cheating and divorce all together. One possible ending could have had Sylvie stay with her original husband in a bitter-sweet ending for Robert, showing viewers to perhaps capitalize on young romance, and embrace true love when it comes your way. Another possible solution could have been having Sylie's fiancee off at war lose his life before he comes back. That way, she does not need to leave a seemingly ideal husband for another average man. One last solution that came to my mind was to have Sylvie's husband return from war as a drunk, abusive bum that mistreats Sylvie and her child, which unfortunately was far too common for people like him in that era. Either way it worked, it should not glorify having an affair, let alone with a perfectly decent man back at home with a child. Especially for a movie set in that time era, it should have old fashioned principles.
