Deception (2008)
5/10
Predictable Movie, Stupid Ending
1 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Deception is erotic crime thriller about a naive lonely accountant (Ewan McGregor) who quickly becomes friend with a charming lawyer (Hugh Jackman) who introduces him into sex club, The club fills with successful career women both young and old who he ends up has sexual encounter. He meets a pretty blonde (Michelle Williams) after he become attracted to her, she's mysterious disappear. He is now prime suspect and discover his new buddy is not who he appears to. He blackmail him to steal money at his job. He wonder if he will ever see her again.

The movie is okay but you see this type story over and over again. They have good casting. I think Maggie Q (Designated Survivor) should have a bigger part in this movie not just small supporting role, Natasha Henstridge and Charlotte Rampling made a guest cameo role as the women that McGregor hook up with. They have interesting chemistry with McGregor and Williams (whom they work together the same year for Incendiary where they have steam love scenes), Williams plays a femme fatale role. They attempt to make her more like Mary Astor in The Maltese Falcon. Hugh Jackman surprise me to play a real sociopath con-man. The problem is McGregor character was blind to fall in love with a woman he just met and making too many mistakes.

The movie could have been better but it was ruin by stupid ending; Williams kills Jackman in the park and no one heard it. McGregor does not take the money but instead leave it at Jackman's body.
