Shallow Grave (1987)
6/10
Surprisingly compelling

Warning: Spoilers
This movie could have been tighter and overall better. It begins with a deceptive scene, then turns silly as it veers into danger of becoming seriously bad. Fortunately, it gets progressively better from there and even compelling. There are some missteps along the way, such as a subplot involving would-be hookups from the University of Michigan. Still, I didn't know how this would end and I wanted to find out. That made watching this worth it to me, even if "Shallow Grave" didn't quite turn into "Deep Grave." If you enjoy movies such as "Macon County Line" or "Jackson County Jail," where innocents run afoul of southern law officers who abuse their power, you will likely find this right up your alley. There is some nudity, courtesy of Carol Cadby, Merry Rozelle and Kimberly Johnston. There is some violence as well, though nothing gruesome.
