It was a horror revenge movie with women

That setup is quite unusual in horror so this movie was somewhat of a treat. You think the movie is going to go in one direction but it switches on you and then switches again.

Wasn't exactly expecting some sort of masterpiece going into this but an enjoyable horror movie which is what this turned out to be and it was different.

Basically the plot is that a social media personality named Danielle played by Carly Chaiken was a bully to her "friends" who invited her to their new years eve party. All of the girls were tormented by Danielle so I guess they group was actually "frienemies". It turns out that Danielle was responsible for bullying one of the girls from their group into jumping out a window into the family swimming pool to commit suicide. This took place at Alexis's house played by Suki Waterhouse. If the intro is a flash back we see Alexis floating in the swimming pool with blood on her face so I'm assuming she cut herself jumping out the window trying to save Kelsey the bullied girl or somehow got pulled out the window with her but survived. That part isn't clear but according to Danielle... Kelsey gave Alexis the scar and Alexis parents fortified all the windows so no one could ever leap from them again.

That is the background to the plot. Fast forward to the party the girls see that Danielle has had much success as an internet personality and is soon going to have an actual TV show. They despise the idea of such a despicable person that bullied a girl to death having so much success so they plan to tie her up and make her confess at their party.

It backfires and turns out that Danielle is a bigger sociopath than they all thought. She isn't just a bully now but she learned to manipulate people into doing what she wants. She uses her mind tricks to manipulate her friend with the lowest self esteem into freeing her from her bondage and assisting her plot to kill the other girls. What Danielle wants is to hide her secret that she is responsible for bullying a girl into suicide as that would ruin her career and tv deal.

The move from there flips between serious and silly or perhaps it's just the acting that's over the top at times? In the end Alexis gets her chance at fame and stardom she always wanted... I guess.

Overall this movie was an okay watch. The story was unique enough and it was entertaining. It left more questions than answers. I don't get why the girls just couldn't have uploaded a video about Danielle and detailed the crime of the girl being bullied to death. That would have worked just as well to destroy her.

I also don't get why Alexis was so interested in being an internet personality and needed to bump Danielle out the way to do this? She could have just uploaded videos doing the same thing and been fine on her own.

I try not to take horror movies like this so seriously otherwise you won't be able to enjoy them. It was a solid 6/10 for being different.
