This film is a fail. The meandering script. The horrible songs. It is a silly Cinderella story about a hotel maid who gets a screen test and becomes a famous star overnight. Unbelievable. No one shows up for a screen test with their original nose, least of all Liza Minnelli.
There are some bright spots. Bergman is magnificent as the contessa who lost her marbles. She is regal, enchanting and pathetic all at once. There are beautiful shots f Rome. Finally, Liza get a flattering bra to wear. A first.
