It's not just fun and games anymore. It's a competition!

I enjoyed the first movie. As you may know, it was about a very big family called the Bakers. And they return for the sequel.

Tom (Steve Martin) wants to spend his last summer vacation with his family at lake Winnetka. But little did he knew that his childhood rival Jim (Eugene Levy) is also here and not alone. He also has a wife and children. Both argue over the fact that Jimmy is way too strict and Tom is way too soft, so as a result, both decide to compete in labor day annual sports competition. Kate (Bonnie hunt) was against the whole idea, simply because she thought that both should just let go of their childish rivalry. Also the kids would rather just do what they want instead of preparing themselves for the competition. Sarah (Alyson Stoner) develops a crush on Elliot (Taylor Lautner), same applies to Charlie who falls in love with Anne. Both Elliot and Anne were the children of Jimmy, so that kind of upseted both fathers.

I must admit, the sequel has less humour than it's predecessor, so it's not the "Laugh out loud" kind of movie, but it has more heart. The Baker family luckily didn't become hateable and are still recognizable. The Murtaugh family was shown to be the contrast of the Bakers, by making the father Jim strict and competitive (but not too much), however the children are as positive and fun as the Bakers and they even became friends. The competition the characters had to participate in were fun, like holding an egg on a spoon in your mouth and running, sack race, balancing on a log and swimming in a Kanoe across the lake.

If there has to something that I disliked about it, is that some characters sadly did not return, like Hank (Ashton Kutcher), Dylan (Steven Anthony Lawrence) and his parents. I get it, they were supporting characters and not as important as the Baker family, but they weren't even mentioned, it's like they never existed. For some people it can be a good thing, because it's not connected to it's predecessor and even if you never watched the first movie, you can still enjoy the successor, because there are some other sequels that are really depended on the first movie like Back to the future, Madagascar and Frozen, which you can't understand if you don't know what happened last time. I can easily recommend Cheaper by the dozen 2 for both fans of the first film and newcomers. It's a nice "home alone" styled movie with a some humour and heart, nice acting from children and adults alike and a nice story. An enjoyable movie for a family night.
