I liked the original Wonder years series, in large part perhaps because the character was exactly the age I had been during that time frame and thus it's 60s suburban thing reflected my own experience and triggered my own nostalgia (not so much nostalgia for my own childhood, which sucked, but for the idealized version Wonder years gave me).
I don't know if this reboot is a lesser series or if it's simply a series I don't connect with as much. Although I will say I didn't connect nostalgically with Everybody Hates Chris but I still thought it was a lot of fun and this seems less than that.
It's not for me, but I wouldn't try and dissuade anyone from checking it out. It's pretty well done.
