Andrew Garfield was BRILLIANT

Warning: Spoilers
I believe it deserves the best picture after watching Tick, Tick... boom again. Andrew Garfield is spectacular. Give him the Oscar already! This boy can sing! He is electric on-screen. He keeps you captivated through many emotions and makes the transitions through the story seamless. To me, this has got to be one of his top performances, if not his best on-screen performance, of his career. Amazing. Like Maguire told him., he was amazing. Robin de Jesús is a powerhouse in this film, which keeps the film founded and real. He stands out from the pact and holds his own against Andrew. The rest of the cast is good. The problem is, when those two are in the scene with them, they easily get overshadowed. MJ Rodriguez is playing a watered-down version of her character in Pose. Completely underused. There are some priceless moments, like the focus group scene. But Lin Manuel Miranda keeps changing style. I found it a little jarring. Andrew is the glue that keeps it together. The cinematography is well done. Similar to In the Heights, Lin-Manuel Miranda can again transition into the dreamlike production numbers and back to the real world effortlessly. The songs have potential and feel unfinished, which is the story's point. They aren't particularly memorable, but the delivery in the choreography makes them solid toe-tappers.

I enjoyed the sound design. It will give your home theatre a good workout without freaking out the neighbors. Very well-balanced. The script, as I mentioned, is a little wonky. It isn't exactly stock dialog but not far from it. Without Andrew and Robin, this could haven't gone south really quickly.

There is a fascinating and inspirational story here, actually two. The problem is the last ten minutes try to tell the other story, and although you get the gist of it, I feel there could have been an even bigger emotional punch if we spent more time in the final story. I still ended up getting goosebumps and having strong emotional feelings. In the end, This is essentially The Andrew Garfield show, and this is a missed opportunity for a four-quadrant crowd-pleaser. For fans of Film musicals or Broadway, you will find something interesting here for sure. I did have fun with it, and I would easily rewatch THIS OVER AND OVER AGAIN some of those musical numbers again. Damn, Andrew blew my mind! 9/10.
