Toddler tested/Mum Critical lol
28 February 2022
My Toddler loves Youtube Baby Shark - requests it all the time. We watched this because I thought he'd be a fan but was bored pretty quickly.

Me, on the other hand, have some 3 specific reasons as to why I think that might be:

1. Character design has changed significantly for the worse e.g. Nose connected with white around mouth in this version, gills added, proportions exaggerated and the basic shapes behind the form of the characters not as smoothly rounded. This made the character's significantly less cute.

2. The voices just didn't suit the characters. The youtube version had a higher more melodic tone (even when not singing) and had a childish quality about it - which appeals more to children. (Even the grandparent sharks in the youtube version sound like a caricature of what an elderly person would sound like. Which is a good thing for helping toddlers distinguish the difference in age.)

3. The colours aren't vivid enough in the Nick version. Why would you desaturate colours for a show aimed at young children? The brighter the colours, the more appealing to toddlers.

Honestly, if the 3 things above were fixed, it would hold the attention of my toddler. To hold my attention I'd like a better story but the plot isn't doesn't hold much weight in comparison to the visuals and sound for my toddler.
