This film was rightfully chosen as Best Film of the Year by the Academy for 1935. The two big-name actors in this production were Clark Gable, who made his mark with It Happened One Night the year before, and Charles Laughton, who would go on to make many fine characterizations in the future. This tale of a mutiny and the events that follow is a highly engaging film. This is the best version of this story, as more expensive productions in the future could not match the stark brutality and innocent nature of the islanders as well as this one. Be sure to see it when you get the opportunity.
