Cimarron Strip (1967–1968)
5/10
A show hampered by tough competition as well as poorly written supporting characters.

"Cimarron Strip" only lasted a single season and much of it is probably due to its playing opposite some top shows in 1967-68, such as "Batman" and "Ironsides". But the reason it didn't last wasn't just because of this...sometimes the writing really wasn't up to snuff. Specifically, the supporting characters were terribly written...just awful. This meant that the entire show rested on Stuart Whitman's shoulders....and while he was pretty good in the lead, having poor supporting characters made his job tough!

Marshall Crown (Whitman) had two deputies. MacGregor was a stereotypical Scotsman who was about the most inept deputy in the history of TV! Again and again, he's all bluster...and then gets konked over the head by various baddies. He almost never is actually helpful to Crown in any way. Then there's Francis....and it's hard to tell during most of the series that he's actually a deputy. He is 'nice' but has little in the way of personality. Finally, there's Dulcey...the absolute worst part of the show by miles. She is a very young lady whose main virtue is that she never thinks...only FEELS. And, repeatedly, she feels sorry for killers, thieves and scum and often undermines the Marshall in his work. A few times, she nearly gets him killed and never do you see a realistic response by Crown. You think he would arrest her for obstructing justice or at least punch her in the nose!!

The bottom line is that this show is all over the place quality-wise. Some episodes are very good (mostly the ones with little of these supporting characters in the episodes) and some are incredibly bad. Overall, a real mixed bag that you can watch on YouTube...all 23 episodes.
