The best way to describe the stupidity of this show, the contempt the creators have for the viewer, is that while in real life the Japanese version of NASA is "JAXA", and has, naturally, it's own distinctive logo, here they change it to "JASA" and have them use the exact same font as the US NASA.

Why?

Because they think you're too stupid to figure out if you see a rocket launch with JAXA on its side, see the control room with people wearing JAXA logos counting down that launch, that it's a space agency.

I can literally imagine the story room: "How will people know that it's a rocket launch if it doesn't say JASA in the NASA font?"

"Um, because you know there is a... rocket launching?"

"That's too confusing...."

----

This is one of those Hollywood shows that thinks you only care about people if they are being abused by an antagonist, so every subplot has a sociopath harassing the "hero": the British schoolboy has his bully; the Arab-American housewife has the worst husband in the history of husbands, etc. But the real sociopaths are the writers, who can't imagine that we'd be sympathetic to a regular Ali or Sally just because they are human, so they construct these trashy not-worthy-of-a-soap-opera family problems to manipulate us into liking their protagonists.

----

Pro-Tip: if you are writing a show about interstellar aliens invading earth, and that's not interesting enough without slathering on a bunch of melodramatic domestic problems, then you are in the wrong business.
