I love Sonic video games. I played Sonic 1, 2, 3 Unleashed, Generations, Colors, and even 06. The first movie was good, somewhat mid. Then, it was mid when I saw it again over the months. But when Sonic 2 took the rings off, and they could go crazy and do whatever they wanted with this film, I was pumped. I also hoped it was just fun. And it was exactly like that. The film is not perfect, but it's a film to enjoy yourself and have fun. And that's what the film should do when they do with the film.
Pros: Seeing Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles all on-screen, I love these characters, as I have seen them and played them in Sonic 2 and 3 and had fun playing these characters. Plus, Jim Carrey again has so much fun playing Dr. Eggman, and seeing him steal the show again was the best part of this film. The human characters were alright again, nothing special. However, I enjoyed this film because it focused more on Sonic, Tails, Eggman, and Knuckles than the human characters. There is nothing wrong with Marsden, Sumpter, or the others, but I came to enjoy this for Sonic, not the human characters. And I am more than grateful they did that. Also, seeing Super Sonic was jaw-dropping; I was so happy to see Super Sonic on the big screen in the final battle. Finally, seeing Sonic play baseball with others contrasts with seeing him play by himself in the first movie; it brought nothing but a huge smile to my face. Finally, Sonic and Knuckles are heartbreaking both Sonic and Knuckles losing their family on the same day was very sad. This film does a Venom: Let there be carnage and doubles down on everything they did in the first film; however, in this film, it works.
Cons: The film can get too kid-friendly. And while I get it; it's a kid's movie, there are times when I wish they took it seriously. Such as films such as Soul, Into the Spider-Verse, or any Pixar/Animated film, there should be moments where the tone automatically changes out of nowhere. Plus, I hate how they didn't give Tails the motivation to visit Sonic; there was no reason.
However, everything from this film was fun, and I had a huge smile throughout the entire film. I love the cast and crew, and no one is near. It was a blast, and I highly recommend it! Whether you're a kid or an adult, Sonic fan or not, there is something fun and exciting in this movie for everyone! Yes, it has its flaws here and there, but I promise you'll find something to enjoy in this film! An absolute must-see if you're a Sonic fan! 7/10. I can't wait for Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
