This story takes after the premise that the leads collaborate on a cookbook together. There's other history there that plays into the story and it's no more unusual than the basic premise.
I wish I could say this without being mean, but there is something about Erica Deutschman that rubs me the wrong way - like nails on a chalkboard. Maybe it has to do with poor acting which is true, but I think it's something about her mannerisms. I felt bad for Gavin and just didn't enjoy watching them spend time together. Since that's the heart of the movie, it was a no-win for me.
The conflict originates over a ridiculous idea. Why would someone need to steal an origin story? And from a notebook that could clearly show the plagiarism.
That said, I really can't say much else about the movie.
