Woh 7 Din review :

Anil Kapoor's maiden success which most presume to be his debut but it's not. Anil's first Hindi film as a hero was Rachna (1983) which had Beena as his heroine. That film came and went so fast that no one took notice. A couple of months later came Woh 7 Din which was brother Boney's first production as well.

Boney and Anil went to Chennai to procure the rights of the Tamil original but when they ran out of funds, veteran actor Sanjeev Kumar and Shabana Azmi helped them. Bapu was onboarded as the director and the reluctant Padmini Kolhapure and Naseeruddin Shah were signed after much insistence by the Kapoor brothers. The movie was filmed in record time and released to an encouraging response. Anil Kapoor got his first big hit.

Padmini Kolhapure was already an established star and she was major reason for the film clicking with the audience. Her performance was not only first rate but she hasnt look more charming and beautiful ..

The plot revolved around a poor musician (Anil) who falls in love with his landord's daughter (Padmini) but she is hurriedly married off to a wealthy widower (Naseer) who gets to know about the romance from her and then tries to re-unite the two lovers.

Woh 7 Din was high on emotions with some melodious score (Laxmikant Pyarelal) thrown in. "Pyaar kiya nahi jaata ho jaata hai" was on everyone's lips that year. The film was a perfect recipe to tug the audience's hearts and later inspired Sanjay Leela Bhansali to make a glossy and bloated version of the same story called Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999). Even that movie turned out to be a box office hit!!

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.
