I hadn't heard of this production before I watched it; it turns out it's a 25 minute episode of a Canadian TV show called THE SUNDAY DRAMA. It gives Christopher Plummer his first chance to play Holmes before MURDER BY DECREE, and he's excellent in the role, playing the detective as a fragile, drug-addled creature with hidden genius. Thorley Walters is delightful as a Nigel Bruce-style Watson, and the Conan Doyle storyline is breezed through and wrapped up in quick time. With plenty of atmosphere, drama and good period detail, this is an excellent little Holmes.
