Fails to live up to its potential

'Murder-Rock: Dancing Death' is a sleazy slasher/giallo hybrid directed by legendary horror icon Lucio Fulci, drenched in garish 80's style and a beautifully rendered grindhouse aesthetic that gives the production a loud energetic style with a cool pop/rock score to boot. While the movie is quite entertaining and certainly has its moments, its by no-means a masterpiece as it never quite reaches the potential it could or should have, especially with Lucio Fulci at the helm.

The plot takes place at a dance academy in New York where a string of murders take place. The owner of the academy Candice (Olga Karlotos) teams up with former male model George (Ray Lovelock) to try and solve the mystery before it's too late.

I would love to say that this is an overlooked and underrated Lucio Fulci gem, but sadly it falls short due to its lack of any real tension, bland characters and generic death scenes, which makes this flick very mediocre and forgettable. While there were some aspects of the movie I did enjoy such as the cool neon filled visuals of New York city and its vibrant atmosphere with sinister overtones. The mystery aspect of the film is also well done, it does keep you guessing until the climax, but other than that it lacks in almost every other department and never rises above sub-standard 80's slasher movie fare.

Overall 'Murder-Rock: Dancing Death' could have been so much more with a couple of tweaks this could have been amazing, however as it stands it's forgotten for a reason.
