Yaanai (2022)
9/10
A formulaic mass entertainer packed with good writing, emotion and well choreographed action sequences
19 August 2022
Director Hari, who is known for fast-paced cuts and fights with loud protagonists and dialogues is BACK WITH A BANG IN YAANAI which is an emotional actioner starring Arun Vijay in the lead role. Arun Vijay plays a good role after his recent hit film Mafia: Chapter 1 which is not a loud hero in recent Hari's films and is decent in emotional sequences. Bhavani Shankar gets a good role and has scope to shine in the film. Samuthirakani is menacing in 2nd half and is good, along with Bose Venkat and Sanjeev Venkat. KGF fame Ramachandra Raju is menacing as the antagonist and is superb in the role. Other actors like Yogi Babu, Ammu Abhirami and Radhika Sarathkumar are also good in their roles.

Action sequences by Anl Arasu are superb and entertaining with single shot bar fight, intro fight being the highlight. G. V P music is fine but the bgm is good. Cinematography and editing by S. Gopinath and Anthony are also good. Director Hari who is the king of masala films in Tamil Nadu is back and has improved his style making and changes can be seen. His writing and emotional sequence is also good and too good focus on action if he had removed some of his trademark comedy (comedy is somewhat enjoyable) and songs, then output would be better.

Overall, Yaanai can be watched for its cast performance, action background score and emotion, despite being a formulaic story it has good writing and emotional scenes which makes it a good watch for family audience. Watch this emotional masala entertainer on Zee5.
