Jimmy Stewart does an admirable job in his role as Monty Stratton, a pitcher for the Chicago White Sox, who had gained some success before a shooting accident that left him an amputee. June Allison plays his faithful wife and Agnes Moorehead his patient mother. The Wizard of Oz is also featured in this film (Frank Morgan). Baseball films can roughly be divided into two types; the sappy and the inspirational. Films like the Babe Ruth Story with William Bendix would fall into the former, while films like Field of Dreams and Pride of the Yankees would fall into the latter. This film is definitely in the inspirational category. Enjoy the story.
