OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes (2017–2019)
6/10
A "kids show" written primarily for manchildren

Of all the animation I've ever seen come through Cartoon Network, none stands out in my mind quite like OK K. O. Let's Be Heroes. There are a couple reaosns for this, but one that want to talk about primarily in this write up.

OK K. O. is not a TV show, as we understand it. It's a loose collection of references to other cartoons, anime, and video games. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, except that the show fundamentally fails to connect with it's youngfer audience. The references are almost all things from the 90s and EARLY 2000s, that most children wouldn't get. This is where it becomes clear that this show was never for kids: It's for people in their 30s who get their political views from Twitter and Tumblr.

It's not that I don't like the show, but much like Steven Universe, it's very obvious that this was written for a very specific crowd and random children were not one of them. It continues the proud tradition of western animators trying to ape Japanese Anime without actually understanding why anime works.
