Modern Tales of the Darkside

Warning: Spoilers
Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth, The Shape of Water and upcoming Netflix animated movie Pinocchio) host this anthology of bizarre eight tales with different directors.

After seeing seven episodes so far, the series is mix of Alfred Hitchcock Presents meets Tales from the Crypt. Del Toro does Rod Serling/Alfred Hitchcock hosting-style on each intro at each episode.

The only strong episode I seen is "The Autopsy" (with F. Murray Braham (Amadeus) & Glynn Turman (Gremlins) it has sci-fi horror and a smart ending. The two weakest episodes are "Pickman's Model" (with Ben Barnes and Crispin Glover) which was a Night Gallery story, it's a slow moving and it's not good I prefer the Night Gallery version better; "Dreams in the Witch House" (with Rupert Grint), Grint did good job in this episode and the witch was terrifying, but the story is weak. The episode "The Viewing" with Peter Weller is okay kind of slow moving because all they do is talking, drinking and taking drugs. It only got interesting near the end.

Overall, the series is a mix bag (mediocre at best). I won't be surprised they will give this show a second season.
