Coming out of the earth is a sloppy radioactive mud like monster killing villagers and soldiers in a quiet part of Scotland. Conveniently on hand to investigate is Dr Royston, played by Dean Jagger and supported by Edward Chapman and Leo McKern.

Another very low budget, but effective sci-fi thriller from Hammer, which was very obviously intended to be another Quatermass story (author Neale wouldn't allow the name to be used) and indeed Jagger, despite being yet another American in a very British role, has the the right avuncular credentials for the part. The effects, given the budget are pretty ropey, but the scientific focus given to proceedings add to the sinister tone prevalent in other Quatermass films. Fun late night entertainment.
