Even if you're not into the stereotypical parts of the new movies, I still recommend you watch this one while keeping an open mind. I think it's worth watching because it carries an important message
I found the beginning weird, unusual, and kind of boring, but things got better and better, and here's why:
First of all, it didn't have the typical ups and downs of a generic Disney, Pixar, DreamWorks, etc. Movies. Everything usually starts off with a fairly calm opening, characters get introduced, then they go on an adventure, and then there's the villain, the villain is almost always flat, which makes it very predictable, and the 'heroes' always overcome the situation and win.
But here, there were no winners or losers; not everyone was entirely good or bad; they just did things out of their impulses. Everyone was trying to do what they thought was best. And, of course, the 'underworld' theme is nothing new, but they took it and did something different with it. I loved how they portrayed that ignorance and stubbornness fear and cause our own downfall or how sometimes we need to look for a different point of view and open our eyes to new possibilities while being afraid and acting responsibly. After all, the existence is vast and we're minuscule. Only because we're small, we don't have to settle for small things; we can still make big changes and contribute to creating a different and better future as long as we don't bite the hand that feeds us. Lastly, the races and sexual orientations weren't the main focus of this movie, they were all living in harmony, and they didn't let any of that get in their way because they don't care. After all, things are already accepted and settled for them. In their world, they have way more important things to work on.
This movie has a much larger and more important message than that. It is cosmical and is trying to point out our mission in this world.
