I can only echo what so many others have said here; WHERE"S THE STORY? We are given no explanation of anything going on in the life of Bridge's character. We're not even clear on why someone sent him this dog. We have a lot of disconnected episodes demonstrating the bad behavior of the mutt, which we of course are supposed to find cute. When the dog whispering lady calls Bridges' character an "angry SOB" it doesn't jibe because he has not seemed particularly angry. The film's only saving feature is the absolutely gorgeous photography of his farm retreat, but that's about it. As Gertrude Stein said of Oakland, "There's no there there."
