In hindsight, pretty good actually

My original rating was somewhere between 5-6, because I remember this one as being sort of ok, a bit weird, boring with an obnoxious sidecharacter that at times seems almost as the main character. Having rewatched the movie yesterday, it is not that bad actually. Compared to "God Save Britania" which lifts a couple plot beats from here (the young side character, the vikings searching for fear so they could fly), the animated movie is a masterpiece. Though Asterix and Obelix feel like side characters at times, the young gaulic boy that is supposed to serve as the audience POV character is by far not as obnoxious as the acted movie version, and by the end of the movie actually goes trough some character development. The Viking girl is a fun strong female character put on screen before that trope became a joke, so there isn't really any political feel to her character. All in all, it is fun to watch Asterix do battle against the northmen. Even though this might be one of the weaker animated movies, the worst animated Asterix is still leagues better than the latest acted movie or other animated movies for that matter.
