As if it wasn't bad enough to end the season on a formulaic happy note where the "good guys" save the day and come out on top--one of whom even gets promoted when she should've been fired or killed earlier in the season, the writers had to kill off the two greatest and most interesting characters on the entire show: Malvo and Lester.
Assuming the Hollywood ending was written to parallel the film's, the writers really missed an excellent opportunity to end the season on a less contrived note, one that didn't stink of the triumph of good over evil theme ever so present in storybooks and mainstream US cinema and TV shows.
