Poorly Whitewashed Colonializm
13 December 2023
First off, this is just not a very good movie. That said, it's also a bafflingly positive spin on a British colonialist that used the threat force and superior firepower to take over a small nation. Worth mentioning, he never expressed interest in women, but wrote remarkably intimate poems for young boys.

A colonizing pederast, not to be glorified. This movie feels like it should've come out in the 50s, when we were all ignoring the horrors of European domination in the 17 and 18 hundreds.

Malaysia would not receive its independence until the 1960s after the Brooke family decided that it wasn't worth the money to rebuild after WW2.

I am truly baffled by this film.
