Not actually a Giallo
27 December 2023
You really can't qualify this film as a Giallo, it does have a good score, and some parts create a good atmosphere, boobs for no real reason being bared. However it's missing the gloved hand, the imaginative ways of killing, and the red herring of guessing the killer wrong numerous times before the ending credits role. The first scene of the dream sequence is very Argentoesque, and some parts feel more Fulci. I like dogs so one scene once we realize Jane's new and only friend led her to a psychosexual Satan worshipping cult made it tough to watch and not be too bias writing this review. I have seen other Martino films, which my favorite is a western called Mannaja. The case of the scorpion's tail is more in line with giallo. Ivan the killer with the piercing blue contacts was a nice touch as well as the ending roof top chase. I do have one nagging problem with the film, and that's it's highly unlikely that there would be a family connection to such a cult mother/ daughter. It does keep you wondering as to what could be real, or dream and is more of a psychological thriller than giallo. 3 /5. I was going to give it a two, but the first murder sequence, nudity, score gain an extra star.
