Let's attempt to identify the differences.

It is immediately apparent that this is an adaptation of a novel-not a light novel, not a manga, not a visual novel, but a true novel. Because it originates from a completely distinct tradition, this will undoubtedly be unique from the others in a number of ways. Let's attempt to identify the differences.

The main idea of the anime is succinctly summarized in the synopsis. It takes off and goes places from there, exactly as it is seen there. You'll essentially get that in the first two episodes, after which it starts to gradually develop and go in the direction it wishes to go. Even though the voyage appears to be fraught with perils, it will ultimately be joyful-at least that is how it feels.

For example, unlike a normal manga or light novel, which tend to have cheap efforts at jokes every few seconds, this is a novel, as I indicated.

I really feel that it would be best if I said as little as possible about the characters, allowing everyone to form their own opinions. That being said, there is a necessary statement to be made. It is not expected that you would find your one-note, shallow characters in most conventional light novels and Mangas. Each one has several levels, and it's rather evident. Give them time to develop; you never know, you might come to despise someone you once liked while falling in love with someone you detested.

This anime has amazing animation, with a fluid rhythm and flow that makes even static shots appear nice. The credits at the beginning and conclusion are excellent, and the animation is done well. The season's best theme is the opening one since, unlike most animated series nowadays, it tells a whole tale in just the first few minutes.
