Umberto Lenzi Had a Music Problem
16 January 2024
This might be the best of the series of four films Lenzi contracted with Caroll Baker. Lord knows other than this set of giallos and 1974's Spasmo I do not like him as a director, he tended towards dumb violent exploitation like Cannibal Ferox (Make Them Die Slowly) later in his career. But it seems for about five or six years in the late 60s and early 70s he wanted to direct a James Bond flick. I get that drift due to his repeated usage of the boring American blonde Baker, who has more of a Doris Day vibe than bearing any similarity to vixens like Barbara Bouchet or Edwige Fenich...and Lenzi's annoying usage of a specific ballad in each of these four films.

Orgasmo is hands down the winner of "Umberto Lenzi's Most Profoundly Annoying Theme Song" but this trait also bled into A Quiet Place to Kill, and even this particularly well-constructed feature film, So Sweet So Perverse. Whhyyyy....indeed.
